Over 60,000 Vehicles in Bulgaria Use Natural Gas

Over the period of one year, the vehicles, using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), have increased with 33 %. They have already increased 60,000 motor transport vehicles. This way, our country has remained one of the leading countries in Europe in CNG usage.

The number of compressed gas stations, where the blue fuel is distributed to motorists, has also increased: they have already reached 77 stations. Detailed information for their location can be found on the official web site of the Bulgarian National Gas Vehicle Association, http://www.bngva.com/.

In addition to being the most ecological from popular fuels, after July 1, natural gas is going to continue to offer the best value to its customers. Due to the gas price reduction with 217.13 leva for 1,000 cubic meters, members of the BNGVA have predicted a price drop between 15 and 20 per cent in the final CNG price, the one that concerns the end consumers. The new expected price is going to be between 1,00 and 1,10 leva per kilogram, the BNGVA have said.

In this way, a 100 kilometre drive, using CNG, is going to cost 7 leva on average, depending on the individuals’ vehicles. In contrast, the same distance, using diesel, costs around 13,10 leva, using petrol, 100 kilometres cost 16,4 leva, and, finally, using propane-butane, the same drive costs 11 leva on average.

Vehicles on CNG have become increasingly popular in public transport. As of June 2009, there are 67 vehicles on CNG in Sofia, 23 in Varna, and 12 in Burgas. Also, Hebrosbus also recently announced that they are buying 30 new buses, produced with CNG equipment, to serve the Pazardzhik region.
