The project commenced in 2000 and is implemented jointly with local hunting farms and students from different schools, mainly technical schools with “gas” classes. In recent years, it has been implemented with 5-6 grade children from “Bulgarsko Shkolo”. Over 20 afforestation actions have been carried out covering the whole country. Forest areas affected by fires or other natural disasters are selected to be restored. The recommendations of forestry specialists, regarding the selection of the species of saplings, are strictly observed, and all technological requirements for afforestation and subsequent cultivation of young forests are strictly complied with.
In 2018, Overgas employees, forestry experts from the Vitoshko-Studena State Hunting Farm and students from “Bulgarsko Shkolo” afforested 7 acres of a new winter oak forest. With this action, the total area of forests afforested by Overgas reached 477 acres. Trees for which the company takes care, have reached 175,000. They absorb more than 1,326 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
